Chapter 119
Ishuel and Chesa stared at the small white flower with wide, startled eyes.
The blossom drifted weightlessly through the air, scattering soft luminescence in all directions.
As they gazed at the glimmering petals, their eyes snapped toward each other in perfect synchronization.
Both their pupils trembled visibly.
My heart plummeted.
'The Twins don't know I'm a Fairy!'
Secrets, by their very nature, ceased to be secrets the moment too many people knew of them.
Kieran had revealed Chesa's secret only to Belzeon, the heir of House Basilian.
It wasn't meant to be kept forever—eventually, the Twins would surely be told the truth.
But for now, while participating in the Pure Child Prayer Ceremony within the Holy Empire, maintaining secrecy meant sharing the truth with only the absolute minimum number of people.
Thus, Ishuel remained completely ignorant until this moment, when his younger sister's body suddenly blazed with light and flowers bloomed forth in a brilliant cascade.
"...!"
Ishuel, frozen in shock for a heartbeat, quickly pulled Chesa into his embrace.
It was to conceal the radiance pouring from her body.
Though he didn't understand what was happening, his instincts screamed that drawing attention to Chesa would be catastrophic.
But his small frame could not possibly hide her completely.
That was when it happened.
Hata's jaws opened wide with a snap.
In one swift motion, she bit down on the flower and swallowed it whole.
As the luminous blossom vanished, darkness reclaimed the space around them.
Both Chesa and Ishuel stared at Hata in utter disbelief.
"Woof!"
Hata barked innocently, her expression that of a clever puppy feigning ignorance.
Unfortunately, her effort proved futile.
Immediately, as if in defiance, three more flowers bloomed in rapid succession.
This time, there were three of them.
They were as pure white as the sacred power wielded by the Holy Priests and Holy Knights of Hilderd.
A delicate, fragrant aroma pierced through the acrid miasma of the monsters.
The freshly bloomed flowers overflowed with vitality, their petals glistening as though moisture would seep from them at the slightest touch.
Gazing at the verdant blossoms, Ishuel murmured softly to himself.
"...So it was you who created those flowers back then."
When his formal attire had been drenched in juice stains at the Ballroom.
Chesa had conjured flowers to conceal the blemishes on his ceremonial robes.
Because of her, he had instead become the center of attention at the Ballroom.
As the truth of past events crystallized in his mind, Ishuel slowly closed and opened his eyes.
His platinum-blonde lashes trembled delicately with each flutter of his eyelids.
His quivering lips released a whispered revelation.
"You're a Fairy."
It was then that Karha suddenly rushed forward with a loud cry.
"What are you doing standing there like an idiot? Do you plan to stay here all night?"
Kieran wasn't searching as instructed, merely standing motionless—Karha's frustration was evident.
Karha bounded toward them, sword dripping with monster blood, his expression fierce, but his eyes widened in shock.
"What... what is that? Flowers?"
Theo, who had followed Karha, similarly opened his eyes wide.
Ishuel had no opportunity to explain anything to them.
Immediately after, flowers began blooming in succession.
Chesa found herself cradling an armful of white blossoms.
Hata, buried beneath the petals, flailed her front paws helplessly.
Karha hastily brushed the flowers from Hata while asking urgently.
"What flowers are these? Did the child create all of them?"
No one could provide a proper answer.
Chesa stared at the flowers in bewilderment.
They had blossomed spontaneously without her invoking any fairy power, which left her deeply unsettled.
Then, suddenly, silence enveloped the space.
Every rampaging monster ceased its movements simultaneously.
The piercing shrieks that had assaulted their eardrums cut off abruptly.
In that eerie stillness, the monsters turned their gaze toward Chesa in unison.
Theo gasped for breath, his eyes darting about in alarm.
"The monsters..."
Unlike Theo, whose voice cracked as he muttered, the Twins remained silent.
They simply stared at Chesa with hardened expressions.
"..."
Clutching the shimmering white bouquet, I met the gaze of the monsters fixed upon me.
The deluge of their stares was eerie enough to terrify anyone.
Yet I felt no fear.
For some reason, their eyes seemed to carry not malice, but rather a desperate plea for help.
In this vast Holy Empire, only I could understand the emotions of monsters.
Monsters do not wish to kill humans.
What they truly desire is the peace of death.
My heart pounded rapidly.
A certain thought kept churning through my mind.
That I might be able to grant monsters that peace...
No—that I must grant it to them.
This was not a thought born from mere sympathy or compassion.
This was a duty.
A duty only I could fulfill.
A duty only I could perform.
"Monsters..."
Before I could even fully comprehend it, my lips moved and I spoke.
"I have to deal with the monsters."
The words that spilled from my lips took on a sharper clarity.
My hesitant voice had found certainty.
"It's something Chesa has to do."
But the Twins did not answer.
A dark shadow flickered across Basilian's crimson eyes.
"...Does it have to be you?"
Ishuel, who posed the quiet question, bit down on his lower lip.
He clenched it so hard the blood drained away, leaving it pale as snow, before speaking again.
"Others could do it. Father and my older brother are already killing monsters, and the Holy Empire's priests and knights are fighting them too."
Ishuel looked as though he might burst into tears at any moment.
His voice, trembling with moisture, asked resentfully.
"Why does it have to be you?"
Perhaps the Twins sensed it instinctively.
That Chesa now stood at a crossroads of transformation, and once the choice was made, there would be no turning back.
"Ishuel."
Karha called to Ishuel softly.
But Ishuel shook his head violently.
Ishuel pulled Chesa into a tighter embrace and murmured to himself.
"What if my sister disappears like Mother did?"
"That won't happen. We're family."
"But if it becomes known that she's a Fairy, that she has this kind of power...."
Ishuel's breathing had become irregular.
Hyperventilation was setting in.
Karha carelessly tossed his sword aside and covered Ishuel's nose and mouth with his hand.
Beneath Karha's palm, Ishuel squeezed his eyes shut and struggled to breathe steadily.
His heaving chest gradually calmed.
After confirming his condition, Karha slowly withdrew his hand and offered a brief rebuke.
"You're too weak for your own good."
Fortunately, Ishuel recovered quickly and glared at Karha.
Regardless, Karha met Chesa's gaze.
He pursed his lips slightly.
He twisted his mouth into a triangular shape and exhaled a long sigh.
"Do what you want, little one. Well... Kieran and Belzeon probably won't like it, but I'll protect you no matter what you do."
The boy pressed a kiss to his younger sister's forehead.
"I drew my sword for you, after all."
His eyes, holding the small child, were resolute.
Soon after, Karha glanced at his twin brother and added.
"And Ishuel too.... You learned magic for her."
As an older brother, shouldn't he do at least that much, Karha said with a hint of jest.
"Besides, wouldn't Kieran stop whatever happens anyway? Father has more than enough power for that."
"...That's true."
Ishuel, who had been listening quietly, added a small remark.
Karha paused for a moment, then whispered while gazing at Chesa.
"So just promise me you won't leave."
Chesa bit her lip.
If she didn't, she feared she might say something strange.
Instead, she slowly nodded her head.
Karha smiled silently, then grasped the sword he had set down once more.
Chesa gently reached out her hand.
The white flowers that had filled her embrace scattered like fireflies in the dead of night.
Blossoms burst forth from Chesa's body as she drifted weightlessly into the sky.
A mound of white petals cradled her feet, and butterflies fluttered delicately around her.
There was no turning back now.
The truth that the adopted child of House Basilian was a fairy would be revealed to the world.
Yet Chesa had already resolved herself.
Chesa whispered softly.
"Chesa will protect her family too."
If she were cast out from the Pure Child Prayer Ceremony and Basilian turned its back on the Holy Empire.
She would steal the Fairy Queen's crown and bring it to Kieran if she had to.
As a fairy, Lichesia would fulfill her duties.
But as the youngest and as family, Chesa Basilian would fulfill her duties as well.
Chesa unleashed the power she possessed in a violent burst.
As the fairy's power tore through the darkness, thousands of pristine white petals bloomed across the night sky.
It was a breathtakingly beautiful shower of flowers.
