Chapter 83
"Damn it, what are you doing?"
That eerie sensation made Kaiden's expression darken immediately, but Yuanna was relentless.
"I... I don't know either, truly."
Soon after, she buried her face against his shoulder, exhaling in a way that made my skin prickle. Her breath was hot and humid against my skin.
"Damn it."
Kaiden set Yuanna down roughly, his face twisted in displeasure. He simply couldn't bear this anymore.
"This is unbearable. Stop this nonsense. I don't care if you're the Holy Maiden."
"If you just touch me a little... it seems to help, Rodban. Please, just wait... it's not like anything wears away."
Yuanna approached him slowly, her eyes unfocused.
Alarmed, Kaiden crossed his arms defensively across his chest and shouted.
"It does wear away. Damn it, it absolutely does!"
'I should just abandon them both and leave!'
Kaiden retreated hastily, suppressing the urge to abandon both of them. But doing so might earn him Margaret's distrust and hatred.
'I'm already irritated enough that the Crown Prince is trying to monopolize Margaret. That absolutely cannot happen.'
Kaiden sighed and sat down on the ground, draping his shoulder around Yuanna, who was sobbing uncontrollably.
"Please help us, Rodban."
But this time, Diego drew his sword and spouted nonsense.
"Put the sword away before you say such things."
Kaiden leaped nimbly, carrying Yuanna to avoid the blade that cut through the air. Diego's sword embedded itself in the spot where he had been standing moments before.
'That crazy bastard.'
Kaiden swallowed his curses and glared at Diego.
"My entire body is burning. I'm going mad. Please... do something about this, Rodban."
Diego's face twisted in agony, his brows furrowed, and tears streamed down his cheeks.
"Rodban, I too..."
And Yuanna, nestled in Kaiden's arms, writhed in pain and sobbed. Her body was already burning as if it might incinerate.
"I'm losing my mind. What can I do? Stop spouting such nonsense and shut up!"
In that instant, Diego charged at him again. Kaiden leaped onto a fallen log and dodged Diego's blade.
Evading Diego's relentless sword strikes while holding Yuanna was no easy feat. Eventually, Kaiden struck the back of Yuanna's neck and knocked her unconscious, then laid her on the ground.
As if he'd been waiting for this moment, Diego swung his sword at him again. Kaiden hastily drew a dagger to block the longsword.
Naturally, the brutal force chipped the dagger's edge. While Kaiden had the advantage in raw strength, it was difficult to keep pace with Diego's swordsmanship as he wielded the longsword with ease.
Kaiden eventually picked up a sturdy branch and aimed for the back of Diego's head, barely managing to knock him unconscious before wrapping the wooden shaft around his body.
Carrying an unconscious adult male—especially a knight with bulging muscles—was no simple task, but for Kaiden it was nothing. In terms of pure strength alone, he was roughly on par with Enoch.
Of course, without magic and relying solely on brute force, he could never defeat Enoch.
Kaiden dragged Diego up a tall tree trunk and bound him securely high above the ground.
If he didn't want to die from a fall at this height, he'd have to endure the pain without struggling.
After binding Diego to the tree and climbing down, Yuanna had already awakened.
"Damn it, why did you wake up so quickly?"
Kaiden muttered irritably.
"Rodban..."
Yuanna's face twisted in anguish, her brow furrowing as tears streamed down her cheeks as she called out to him.
Her appearance was so captivating it could entrance anyone at a glance—enough to understand why Diego would shield her even at the cost of turning his back on Enoch.
But it had no effect on Kaiden. He regarded Yuanna with cold indifference, his mind already made up.
'I'll have to tie her up in the tree with Diego.'
I hoisted Yuanna over one shoulder and climbed the massive tree where Diego hung suspended.
Ascending higher to the branch where Diego lay unconscious, I laid Yuanna down and secured her to the tree with bindings.
Once the task was complete, I leaped lightly down from the tree.
Clang.
Diego's longsword caught beneath my foot.
Bending down to retrieve it, I examined the blade carefully. The hilt bore an intricate engraving of a lion and lily—the emblem of the Langrid Empire's Imperial Guard.
"I should have brought a weapon of my own."
There were plenty of magical tools that could be used without channeling mana through them. If I'd brought even one, it would have been as useful as the sword Diego carried.
I exhaled a long sigh and slumped against the tree trunk.
'I'm going mad wanting to use my mana.'
If I could, the possibilities on this Island would be endless.
I leaned my head back against the trunk and gazed up at the sky. The moon hanging above the darkening heavens shone with unusual brilliance.
"Sigh... I'm exhausted. I wonder if Margaret is alright?"
The crimson flowers that had driven Yuanna and Diego into convulsions surely didn't bloom only in their location. Which meant the flowers might also bloom where Margaret was...
"Don't tell me Margaret has become like the Holy Maiden too?"
I rose to my feet, my expression clouded with anxiety. The mere thought of Margaret convulsing with excitement, her breathing ragged like Yuanna's, made my face burn inexplicably.
"Have I lost my mind? It's not even frustration."
I furrowed my brow and ran my fingers roughly through my hair.
"Damn it, wait. If Margaret becomes like that, the one beside her would be the Crown Prince, wouldn't it?"
'What kind of ridiculous situation is this?!'
It was all speculation and conjecture. Yet I couldn't suppress the anger that surged within me.
I was certain I would never refuse if Margaret threw her arms around me!
"Blast it all. I should have stayed at the Cabin even if Margaret hated me for it!"
My face twisted with regret as I tore at my hair, swallowing down my frustration.
